Horse-drawn sleigh rides at the dam in Crosslake will be free from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 for Holiday at the Dam!

This weekend, Crosslake has several holiday events you won't want to miss.

Start your holiday fun Saturday, Dec. 3, at businesses around town, which will be offering special deals in honor of the annual Holiday at the Dam celebration. For the past few years, the Light Up the Dam Committee has worked hard to raise funds and put up lights at the dam, city hall and the community center in Crosslake. To celebrate the lights, the Holiday at the Dam celebration was born. Since the committee got to work, businesses and establishments around town have joined in and put up their own lights and decorations. Crosslake becomes a winter wonderland full of twinkling lights each December.

The celebration itself is from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Cross Lake Army Corps of Engineers Recreation Area (the park by the dam), where there will be horse-drawn sleigh rides (complete with jingling sleigh bells on the horses!), hot cider, a bonfire with s'mores and, best of all, Santa himself!! Swag bags with deals and discounts at local merchants will be given to the first 150 adults.

The Holiday at the Dam celebration will also serve as a drop-off point for new, unwrapped gift donations to Christmas for Kids, which provides Christmas gifts to families in need.

The fun continues that evening at 4 p.m. at Maucieri's Italian Restaurant, where a fundraising celebration for Christmas for Kids will be held. Every year, Christmas for Kids provides gifts to more than 100 local children whose families are struggling during the holidays. The celebration at Maucieri's not only ensures a fun Christmas for those benefiting from Christmas for Kids, but also for everyone who attends! Bring in a new, unwrapped gift or a monetary donation to the cause and receive a free drink.

Vendors will be selling gifts, and a silent auction will be held from 4-6 p.m. Then, at 7 p.m., the live auction begins. All the funds raised from the auctions will go to Christmas for Kids. Pick up holiday gifts and support the cause at the same time.

Then, later in the week, there's another Christmas for Kids celebration on Dec. 7 at Riverside Inn in Crosslake. The celebration starts at 7 p.m., and for a minimum donation of $10 or an unwrapped toy, enjoy a buffet of great food, door prizes and drink specials.

Both the Maucieri's and Riverside events promise festive fun, but if you can't make it to either and still want to support community families in need, you can drop off Christmas for Kids donations at several area drop sites: Lakeplace Realty, Lakes Area Gallery and Frame, Crosslake Drug, Schaeffer's in Nisswa, the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce or the Pine River-Backus Family Center.

This is just the beginning of tons of fun around the Whitefish Chain leading up to the holidays- watch each week for more updates, or check the area Chamber of Commerce Websites (Pine River and the Brainerd Lakes Area) for more event information.
