This weekend, Jan. 3-5, is the annual Ice Fest, where you can get out on Pelican Lake and enjoy a variety of cold-weather activities and then warm up under the big tent with a meal and a beverage.
Ice Fest takes place just south of the Whitefish Chain in the Breezy Point bay of Pelican Lake near the resort. Join in the pond hockey tournament and take on the other teams for great prizes. Try out curling in the on-the-ice curling rink. Play with the kids on the ice slide (bring your sleds!) or the whole family can play a game of snow golf out on the bay.
Warm up by the big bon fire on the beach or head under the tent for a beverage and concessions. Take a free horse-drawn hay ride or join in the bag toss tournament under the big warming tent. Under the tent will also be live music featuring Wyld Rice Band! Food and drink specials will also be available in Dockside, the nearby lounge. Enjoy a beautiful fireworks show at dusk on Saturday evening. Many of the activities will be available most of the day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, though Saturday is the main event.
The pond hockey tournament is one of the main events and an annual favorite. Anyone can enter their team of four to six; email Dave at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up. Cost is $25 per person or $100 per team. Prizes will be awarded!
The event will also include a kids' ice fishing tournament on Jan. 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. There's a limit of 25 kids maximum, so call Lacey at 218-562-7172 to sign up your kiddo.
The weather forecast for this weekend is looking good- not too cold but not slushy either! The high on Saturday will be 23 and on Sunday it will be 28. Both days should see some sun.
Start your year off right, and as they say, don't hibernate, celebrate!
