This weekend a celebration for a good cause takes place just a stone's throw from the Whitefish Chain. The Gull Lake Frozen Fore consists of several events and raises money for worthy local charities. The event bills itself as the world's largest golf and snowmobile charity event. Every year the event is held at the end of February, and this year's is this weekend, Feb. 22-24. Check out the video above to get an idea of the fun! This year's theme is "Game Show Weekend."
The fun begins on Friday night, Feb. 22, with the Frozen Flop (the northerly version of the polar plunge!). Organizers say that this event is unique in that it takes place under a heated tent, out of the wind. Test your stamina and support great causes by taking the leap (literally!) into the icy cold water of Gull Lake on Hole in the Day Bay. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. under the tent on Hole in the Day Bay, and the flop begins at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the first of two bands kicks off. Solo plays first followed by SFO: a Journey Tribute at 9 p.m. There's a $10 cover for the tent party, but it's included in your Frozen Fore ticket.
The next morning the main event begins with a kickoff pancake feed beginning at 9 a.m. on the ice of Gull Lake. After the feed, snow golf begins. Hop on the provided shuttles or your own snowmobile and travel to eight holes of winter golf located around the lake. The golf club and tennis balls are provided, so there's no need to bring your own. After you visit each hole, turn in your completed scorecard at any hole to be entered to win great prizes. Holes are located at Zorbaz on Gull, Cowboy's, Jakes, Ernie's on Gull, The Side Track, The Pines at Grand View, and there are two holes on the ice at Hole in the Day Bay.
This year the Pequot Lakes Brush Pilots are hosting snowmobile drag races on the ice near the tent. Sign up starts at 9 a.m. and the races are at 11 a.m.
As you visit each hole, keep an eye out for life-size Polaroid photo frames that are part of this year's Digital Scavenger Hunt. Get your photo at each hole and upload it to any social media platform using the hashtag #frozenfore19. Upload a photo from each hole and you'll be entered into a drawing to win four tickets to the Frozen Fore 2020!
After a day of golf, there's a tent party Saturday night from 5 p.m. to midnight on the ice under a heated tent with live music.
The fun continues on Sunday with "The Largest Brunch on Ice" as well as a craft beer tasting- both begin at 11 a.m. under the tent at Hole in the Day Bay. You'll also be able to watch a slideshow of all the Digital Scavenger Hunt entries, and at 12:30 prizes will be drawn!
Proceeds from the entire weekend go to the Confidence Learning Center and Kids Against Hunger. The Confidence Learning Center (often called Camp Confidence) is an outdoor center for people with developmental and cognitive disabilities, as well as the deaf, and their families. Kids Against Hunger is a non-profit that seeks to provide nutritious food to impoverished families all over the world as well as locally. Both charities are more than worthy of a frosty dip in the lake or a weekend of fun golf and food! If you can't participate in the event, you can still donate to the cause at the Frozen Flop registration website.
Get tickets to the Frozen Fore here, and then pick them up at your starting hole. Tickets are $60.
