It's the time of year once again for Pine River's annual summer festival, Summerfest! The festivities last through Sunday, July 29, and there's fun events for the whole family.
Sidewalk Sales start on Friday, July 27 in downtown Pine River and continue on Saturday. Check out everything that local merchants have to offer. On Friday and Saturday you can also browse the fantastic work of local artists at the Pine River Art Sale, which will be held at the Warehouse (307 Norway Ave.). Finally, be sure to stop by the Library Book Sale at the Pine River Library. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Friday and Saturday will be the Rhubarb Festival at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The festival will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days and will include rhubarb everything: pies, slush, jams, jellies, sauces, plants, rhubarb leaf birdbaths and more! In all 400 fresh baked/frozen pies are being prepared for the festival!
Friday will have a lot of great events, including two summertime standards: the Duck Races, which start at 1:45 p.m. at the dam, and the Grower's and Crafter's Market, which is from 2:30 to 5:30 right on Barclay Avenue (Pine River's main drag).
All day on Friday the First Lutheran Church will be holding a bake sale in front of Jim's Barber Shop (location), so be sure to stop by and check out the goodies for sale.
There are fun events for both lunch and dinner, too. There's a free community picnic at the Good Samaritan Riverside Apartments from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. From 5-8 p.m. the Pine River American Legion is holding a steak fry fundraiser.
Saturday's main event is the parade, which will start at 2 p.m. and go right down main street (Barclay Ave.). This year's theme is "Skol Pine River" so you're bound to see lots of fun purple and gold on the floats! Anyone can join the parade, there's no entry fee and there are prizes awarded for several categories. Lineup is at 12:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
At Kater Park, above the dam, there will be live music from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Tim and Cindy Country and Bluegrass. A food wagon opens at the park at 11 a.m., as do kids activities, including inflatable games and face painting, until 3 p.m.
Don't miss the visit from the Minnesota Zoo Zoomobile, which will be visiting Pine River State Bank from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Music will play on the street before the dam by Jan's DJ Service. The swimming beach and playground will also be open.
From the sidewalk sales to the Rhubarb Festival to the parade, summer is being celebrated this weekend in Pine River. Don't miss Summerfest!
