If you're looking for a day of fun for the whole family, nearby Brainerd has a couple attractions that are perfect for a day trip.
The Great Lakes Escape recently opened as the area's first escape room challenge. A group of up to eight people (family or friends) is put into a room where they will work to solve a challenge in 60 minutes. That could mean finding clues, searching for hidden objects, solving puzzles and working as a team.
The themed scenarios at the Great Lakes Escape vary, so check the attraction's website for the most current themes. All bookings must be made in advance, which can be done on the website. The cost to partake in the Great Lakes Escape is $20 per person, and participants must be at least 10 years old.
While the quest takes around an hour, the Great Lakes Escape recommends planning about 90 minutes total. While the game is called an "escape," the room is not actually locked and no one is physically restrained.
Another fun Brainerd/Baxter activity is laser tag at the Holiday Inn Express. The laser tag facility there has two levels for tons of fun. Dodge and duck around obstacles in an attempt to bring down your opponents. The game is a family friendly challenge that helps build teamwork and is always fun.
Unlimited laser tag is available on Fridays from 4-10 p.m. and Sundays from 3-9 p.m. for $14.99 per person. Otherwise laser tag is $8 for 24 points. Nearby is an arcade.
Along with the laser tag is Three Bears Waterpark, which is a great way to play in the water if it's chilly out or a rainy day. The waterpark includes a lazy river, "big splash" featuring a 1,000 gallon splash bucket, 300-foot tube slide, 300-foot body slide, large hot tubs for both adults and children, three slides for younger children and an activity pool. It's $14.95 per swimmer Monday-Thursday, and $19.95 per swimmer Friday through Sunday. It's $4.95 to enter the park and not swim. Combine unlimited laser tag with the waterpark for $21.99 total.
So, if you'd like to try something different, nearby Brainerd is just a short drive (30-40 minutes) away. And while we naturally think most of the fun is on the Whitefish Chain, we have to admit that Brainerd and Baxter have some fun activities, too!
