Concerts, Movies and Grandstands, Oh My!

A scene from the Crosslake Outdoor Concert Series

The fun never quits on the Whitefish Chain, especially when it comes to summer evenings. As summer heats up here in the north, so does our event calendar. This week we're featuring several evening activities to enjoy with the whole family.

Summertime Concert Series

Both Pequot Lakes and Crosslake have a summertime outdoor concert series. At these concerts you'll find everything from Cajun to bluegrass to oldies to rock! The series features local bands as well as some that come from across the state.

Pequot Lakes' series is called Band in the Park and takes place every Saturday from 7-9 p.m. in Trailside Park. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to set up on the grass. Here's the summer lineup:

Crosslake also has a fun lineup! These concerts are also on Saturday evenings and begin at 6 p.m. Once again, bring a lawn chair or blanket. They take place in Crosslake Town Square.

Both cities' concert series are a great opportunity to hit the town: go shopping and grab dinner or ice cream before or after the concerts. Both venues are close to great restaurants and shopping.

Summer Outdoor Movies

In Crosslake, the Army Corps of Engineers is hosting summertime movies held outdoors. These are a blast! The Corps and its volunteers and sponsors go above and beyond to pick great movies for fun for the whole family. Before every movie there's an educational program, and sometimes prizes are given away! The area is sprayed for mosquitoes in advance of the event so bugs are not an issue. All the movies are family friendly. Popcorn and water are provided. Movies start around 9 p.m. at the Corps on the lawn not far from the dam.

Here's a list of this summer's movies (titles are subject to change):

  • Friday, June 17: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
  • Friday, July 15: A Bug's Life
  • Friday, August 12: Turner and Hooch
  • Friday, September 23: Star Wars
