If you want family summertime fun, there's no place quite like the fair. Cass County's fair happens to be this Thursday through Sunday, June 27-30, in Pine River (that's on the northwest side of the Whitefish Chain!).

The fair is tons of fun, from the 4-H shows and exhibits, to the midway, to the rides and the food (funnel cakes, anyone?). All that doesn't even mention the grandstand, which this year will include pig races, mutton bustin', baja races and a mud run!

The fun begins on Thursday in the morning, when check-in for open class 4-H events begins. While the midway and rides are always a big hit, the 4-H events really form a wonderful part of the fair and the community's involvement. It's both interesting and entertaining to watch the hard-working 4-H kids show off the animals they've raised up from babies. Whether it's chickens, sheep, pigs, rabbits, or just about any other farm animal you can imagine, the shows hold a special charm. Check the full schedule on the fair website to see when shows and judging are held. Here's a couple highlights:

  • The poultry show and judging will be at noon on Thursday, June 27 in the open air arena.
  • The rabbit show is at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 in the open air arena
  • The general livestock show, which includes swine, sheep, dairy and goats, is at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 28 in the open air arena.

Those who do well in the livestock shows have the opportunity to show their animals at the Minnesota State Fair.

Children will love visiting the Tiny Hands Farm, where they can see all kinds of farm animals and learn about farms and farming. Tours of the building will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, noon-8 p.m. on Saturday and noon-2 p.m. on Sunday. Find the Tiny Hands Farm in the horse barn.

Show off your talent and see others' at the talent show! The talent show will be at 6 p.m. on Friday in the Don Smith building. To be a part of the show, you need to sign up by 4 p.m. the same day in the farm office.

We haven't even gotten to the grandstand events yet! See future rodeo stars at mutton bustin' at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Registration begins at 6 p.m. Baja Rally Races are at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for kids 3 and under.

You'll also love the BINGO, the Cass County Farm Bureau and MN Cattleman's beef brisket dinner, the kids tractor pedal pull, and so much more. All in all, the Cass County Fair is four days packed with fun for all ages.
