Create a one-of-a-kind handmade gift or decorate your home for the holidays with the help of local arts and crafts classes. Around the Whitefish Chain in snowy Minnesota, we're getting creative and festive all at once, with lots of opportunities to make meaningful gifts, lovely decorations and fun memories.
Serendipity Art Gallery and Gifts in Pequot Lakes has a full lineup of great art classes through the holidays, including felted gnomes (like those pictured above!), garlands, paper flower wreaths, and more! We especially love the felted Christmas light garland and the paper snowflakes, which are a major step above your standard fold and cut snowflakes. All classes are taught by Jenni Sommerness, store owner, and include materials and light snacks. See a full lineup on her Facebook page. Many of these classes will help you make lovely decorations for your home or heartfelt (pun intended!) gifts for your friends and family. If you can't make it to Jenni's classes, the store is a great place to check a few items off your Christmas gift list.
The SchoolHouse in Nisswa will also be hosting several festive classes through the new year. Many of the classes use real, local greenery to make wreaths, hanging baskets, pot planters and more. See the SchoolHouse website for all the info. The SchoolHouse also has a fresh cut Christmas tree lot that's already in full swing at their location on City Hall Street in Nisswa. Find up-to-date hours and more on their Facebook page.
A standby for fun painting events in the Whitefish Chain Area and across the Brainerd Lakes is the Travelling Art Pub, or TAP. TAP provides everything you need as well as step-by-step instruction on how to create fun paintings for your home. Many of their upcoming events are in the Whitefish Chain Area, including a festive plaid camper painting on Nov. 25 in Merrifield and a "Merry and Bright" painting on Dec. 4 at Timberjack's in Pequot Lakes. This is only a sampling of TAP's events; see their Facebook page for the full schedule. TAP's events are all painting events and are held at various locations across the area.
Up in Crosslake is Kicks on 66, an art gallery and studio where you can browse fine art and create some of your own. Kicks has studio space with paints and canvasses so the whole family can get creative almost every weekend. Teacher-led sessions are also scheduled periodically. Check their online calendar for more info.
