Clear Waters

The Whitefish Chain is, naturally, best known for the chain of lakes it's named for. The 14 lakes that make up the chain are each unique and beautiful. The waters are clear and healthy and the fishing is great! As the centerpiece of the area, the waters bring life and activity to everyone who visits and resides in the area.

Tall Pines

It is not very often that one gets to see stands of 100-foot Norway pines, but around the Whitefish Chain, they're commonplace. The gentle giants of the north overlook the shores of the lakes, the beautiful lakeside resorts, and the area's parks and wilderness areas. White and red pines, too, tower over the area, not to mention tamaracs and jack pines.

Pristine Wilderness

Natural beauty is simply a given on the Whitefish Chain, where there are seemingly endless acres of perfect wilderness to explore and enjoy. Many wilderness areas, wildlife management areas, walking trails and preserves are open to the public to experience and explore, preserved for the enjoyment of people and wildlife.

Endless Recreation

The Whitefish Chain Area is a place for activity. Get outside and enjoy your natural surroundings in one of a million ways, in any season. In winter, a network of snowmobiling trails cris-crosses the area and connects multiple cities. Fish house villages pop up on the lakes, and several different areas have groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails. In the spring and fall, bike trails and extra-wide shoulders on nearly every area road make it easy and safe to travel the area by bike. Hunter walking trails are popular in the fall, and in the summer, take to the lakes or the parks to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather. Stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, tubing, wakesurfing, waterskiing, fishing and much more are all on tap.

Great Communities

After you make the most of the woods and water, turn your attention to any of the several towns surrounding the Whitefish Chain. There, you can spend the day shopping the gift shops, art galleries and specialty boutiques that are filled with unique and special items. Every town surrounding the Whitefish Chain has great places to eat an excellent meal, so gather the family around the table and enjoy. Fun festivals are when the communities gather to make the most of their town and the many seasons of the year, whether it's Crosslake's Winterfest or Pequot Lakes' summertime Bean Hole Days!

You'll find that when you visit the Whitefish Chain, you'll create your own list of reasons to love the area. Whatever your reasons may be, you'll be glad you visited.
