A favorite holiday activity for many families is to take a drive or a walk and see the beautiful lights adorning homes, stores and more. It's a great way to get in the spirit and it's one upside to the short days we have this time of year.
Pequot Lakes is currently celebrating Light the Night in Trailside Park, where holiday lights glisten and glimmer with cheer. This event aims to grow every year, and seeing the lights there is a great way to end a day of local shopping. Businesses, community organizations and the city are all teaming up to make the lights beautiful and bountiful.
We recommend taking a stroll through Trailside Park or simply driving around town to soak up all the cheer in the holiday lights.
Up in Crosslake, the Light Up the Dam committee has been working hard for several years now to make the dam area, a space the city is known for, a holiday beacon. Every year more lights are added at the dam area. It's fun to park at the recreation area and explore the lights. Walk over the top of the dam and under the lit archways for a very pretty holiday experience, or head to the base of the dam and stroll the fishing boardwalk to see the lights as they reflect off the water on the river side of the dam.
Seeing the lights from the lake shore is anorther fun way to see the lights reflected on the ice and snow. While you're at the dam, walk out on the fishing pier on the lake side of the dam or walk to the public accesses in the adjacent campground to look over the lake and see who's decorated for the holidays.
While you're out enjoying the night time decorations, be sure to look north to see if there are any northern lights! This natural phenomenon is a magical experience that few get to enjoy, and the Whitefish Chain is far enough north to be able to take part!
